Valery Ovsianikov
Guest Conductor
Born in near Moscow. Graduated from the St Petersburg Conservatoire in 1985 as a chorus master and again in 1991 as a symphonic conductor. Has worked with many orchestras both in Russia and abroad, including the Pacific SO, Rochester PO, San Jose SO (USA), Mexico City PO, Kansai SO (Japan), SO of the Teatro Regio (Turin), Teatro Real (Madrid), the Ankara Opera House (Turkey) and the Frankfurter Museumsorchester (Germany) amongst others.
Regularly conducts at St Petersburg´s Mariinsky Theatre.
Repertoire includes: The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, Giselle, La Sylphide, Don Quixote, La Bayadére, Chopiniana, Le Corsaire, The Fountain of Bakhchisarai, Eugene Onegin, Faust.
Has recorded several CDs of symphonic music by Tchaikovsky, Rakhmaninov, Shostakovich and Prokofiev.
In 1990, he became Musical Director of the Vaganova Ballet Academy in St Petersburg.
In 1997, he became guest conductor at London´s Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.
In 1998, he became guest conductor at the Finnish National Opera in Helsinki.
In 2000, he became guest conductor at the Swedish Royal Opera in Stockholm.
